Recipients of the Caregiver (Adapted) Digital Badge Credential have demonstrated concept proficiency and completed the following tasks:
Activity 1: Germ-Free Environment
1. Gather materials you need. |
2. Put on the hospital gown. |
3. Stand in front of sink. |
4. Turn on warm water. Put your hands in sink. Keep hands lower than elbows so water drips down. |
5. Wet hands and use soap. |
6. Wash palms and back of hand. Count to 10 as you scrub. |
7. Clean around your soapy nails with the brush. |
8. Clean under your nails with the fingernail file. |
9. Rub soapy fingers together while you count to 10. |
10. Rinse hands well. Keep hands lower than elbows so water drips into sink. |
11. Dry hands well. Use clean paper towels for drying hands. |
12. Use a paper towel to turn the water off. |
13. Have your teacher check your work. |
14. Clean up your work area. |
Activity 2A: Taking a Temperature
1. Gather all materials. |
2. Put on the hospital gown. |
3. Wash your hands so you are germ free. |
4. Say hello to your patient volunteer and ask them to sit down. |
5. Put a tip cover on the end of the thermometer. Turn on the thermometer. |
6. Tell your patient to open his mouth. |
7. Place thermometer under the tongue, and have patient close mouth. |
8. When thermometer beeps, remove from patient’s mouth and read numbers. |
9. Write the temperature on the TPR form. |
10. Have your teacher check your work. |
11. Take the tip cover off the thermometer. Throw it away. |
12. Wash the thermometer with soap, cotton balls, and water. Wash your hands. |
13. Put your materials away. |
Activity 2B: Checking Pulse
1. Gather all materials. |
2. Put on the hospital gown. |
3. Wash your hands so you are germ free. |
4. Say hello to your patient volunteer and tell him (or her) to sit down. |
5. Rest patient’s arm on his (or her) knee. |
6. Place the tips of your first two fingers on the inside of the wrist just below the thumb. |
7. Press the fingers until you feel the heartbeat or the pulse. |
8. Use the watch and count the pulse for 1 minute or 60 seconds. |
9. Record the pulse rate on the TPR form. |
10. Have your teacher check your work. |
11. Put your materials away. |
12. Wash your hands |
Activity 3A: Counting Respirations
1. Gather all materials. |
2. Put on the hospital gown. |
3. Wash your hands so you are germ free. |
4. Say hello to your patient volunteer and ask them to sit down. |
5. Watch the patient’s chest go up and down for 1 respiration. |
6. Use the watch to count the respirations for 1 minute. |
7. Write the number of respirations on the TPR form |
8. Have your teacher check your work. |
9. Put your materials away. |
Activity 3B: Taking Blood Pressure
1. Gather all materials. |
2. Listen to the CD of the heartbeat. |
3. Put on the hospital gown. |
4. Wash your hands so you are germ free. |
5. Say hello to your patient volunteer and ask them to sit down. |
6. Get the stethoscope. |
7. Use the stethoscope to listen to your patient’s heartbeat. |
8. Get the blood pressure cuff. Flatten it out. |
9. Wrap the blood pressure cuff around upper arm, not too tightly. |
10. Ask your teacher to check your work. |
11. Put your materials away. |
12. Wash your hands. |
Activity 4: Managing Medications
1. Gather all materials. |
2. Wash your hands. |
3. Get the pill organizer. |
4. Get the colored objects that you will be using as pretend medication. Sort objects onto Activity Sheet 4. |
5. Open all the sections that say MORN. |
6. Place 1 medication 1 into each open section. |
7. Close the covers of each section. |
8. Open all the sections that say NOON. |
9. Place 1 medication 2 into each open section. |
10. Close the covers of each section. |
11. Open all the sections that say EVE. |
12. Place 1 medication 3 into each open section. |
13. Close the covers of each section. |
14. Open all the sections that say BED. |
15. Place 1 medication 4 into each open section. |
16. Close the covers of each section. |
17. Have your teacher check your work. |

Activity 5: Get Acquainted
1. Gather all materials. |
2. Put the Interest Inventory on the clipboard. |
3. Ask your patient to sit down. |
4. Sit down near your patient and ask them question 1. |
5. Draw a circle around the answer on the Interest Inventory. |
6. Now ask the patient question 2 and circle their answer on the form. |
7. Keep asking the questions and circling the answers until the form is complete. |
8. Ask your teacher to check your work. |
Activity 6: Making Choices
1. Gather all materials. |
2. Put the Activity Preference sheet on the clipboard. |
3. Sit down with your volunteer. Look at the choices next to number 1. Ask your volunteer which they like best. |
4. Circle the activity next to the one that your volunteer chose. |
5. Now show your volunteer the choices for number 2. Mark the volunteer’s choice. |
6. Ask your volunteer to make a choice for each number on the Activity Preference sheet. |
7. When you are finished, give the sheet to your teacher. |
Activity 7: Scheduling
1. Gather all materials. |
2. Find the Activity Preference Sheet from Activity 6. |
3. Cut out the activity selected by your volunteer for number 1. |
4. Glue the activity square onto the number 1 on the Daily Schedule form. |
5. Continue cutting and gluing the activities chosen for each number onto the Daily Schedule Form. |
6. Have your teacher check your work. |
7. Put your materials away. |
