Recipients of the Carpentry (Adapted) Digital Badge Credential have demonstrated concept proficiency and completed the following tasks:
Activity 1: Identifying and Sorting Fasteners
1. Gather the materials you need. |
2. Ask your teacher to help find the correct fasteners in the fastener bin. |
3. Put the fasteners on the table. |
4. Place Matching Sheet 1 on table. |
5. Place a nail on the correct picture on the matching sheet. |
6. Place each fastener on the correct picture. |
7. Have your teacher check your work. |
8. Clean up your work area. |
Activity 2: Using a Hammer and Nails
1. Gather the materials needed. |
2. Put materials on the table. |
3. Put on your safety goggles before using tools. |
4. Put nail point into hole in wood. |
5. Tap gently until nail stays in wood without being held. |
6. Move fingers out of the way, hit hammer harder to drive into wood. |
7. Have your teacher check your work. |
8. Clean up your work area. |
Activity 3: Using a Screwdriver and Screws
1. Gather the materials you need. |
2. Put the materials on the table. |
3. Put on your safety goggles. |
4. Make sure you have the right screwdriver for your screws. |
5. Put screw point into hole in wood. |
6. Carefully turn screwdriver until screw goes into wood. |
7. Have your teacher check your work. |
8. Clean up your work area. |
Activity 4: Measuring
1. Gather all the materials you need. |
2. Lay wood or foam board on table. |
3. Lay ruler on foam board or wood. |
4. Put the ruler at the end of the board. |
5. Mark a line at number 5. |
6. Have your teacher check your work. |
7. Place the end of the tape measure at the end of the foam board or wood. |
8. Mark a line at the number 2. |
9. Have your teacher check your work. |
10. Clean up your work area. |
Activity 5: Making a Box: Getting Started
1. Gather the materials you need. |
2. Put on the hard hat and goggles. |
3. Put on the tool belt with the hammer holder and the hammer. |
4. Line up the 2 smaller pieces of lumber with the larger bottom piece. |
5. Have someone hold the sides while you hammer 1 nail into top corner. |
6. Hammer a nail into other corner. |
7. Hammer a nail into corner on other side. |
8. Hammer a nail into the last corner on the bottom. |
9. Hammer 2 nails between the corners on one side. |
10. Hammer 2 nails between the corners on the other side. |
11. Turn box over and put in end piece of wood. |
12. Turn box over and hammer 2 nails into new board. |
13. Turn box on the side and hammer two nails into the wood. |
14. Turn box on other side and hammer 2 nails into wood. |
15. Repeat the last 4 steps for the other end of the box. |
16. Ask your teacher to check your work. |
17. Put the materials away and clean up the work area. |
Activity Six: Making a Box: Finishing the Box
1. Gather the materials you need. |
2. Put on a hard hat and safety goggles. |
3. Get the box you made in Activity 5. |
4. Turn it over and place last piece of wood on top. |
5. Get the 2 hinges and 5 screws. |
6. Hold lid and turn box so hinges lay flat on top. |
7. Use a hammer and nail to make starter holes in the top for the 2 hinge screws. |
8. Use screwdriver to tighten top 2 screws on hinges into box. |
9. Use a hammer and nail to make starter holes in the box for the bottom of the hinge. |
10. Use screwdriver to tighten bottom 3 screws. |
11. Use sandpaper to smooth any rough edges on the wood. |
12. Ask your teacher if you can paint the box. |
13. Ask teacher to check work. |
14. Put materials away and cleaned up work area. |
Activity 7: Identifying and Cleaning Tools
1. Get your materials. |
2. Lay towel flat on table. |
3. Place tools on the towel. |
4. Look at the hammer. Is the handle rough or broken? |
5. If the hammer is safe, wipe it with the rag and place on the towel. |
6. If the hammer is rough, cracked, or broken, give it to your teacher. |
