Cleaning Maintenance (Beginning)

Recipients of the Cleaning Maintenance credential have demonstrated concept proficiency and completed  the following tasks:

Activity 1 – Desk Top Cleaning
(a) Filled bucket with one gallon of water.
(b) Made a solution with 1/2 cup of disinfectant cleaner and carried cleaning solution to room with desks.
(c) Removed all items from desk.
(d) Wet sponge in solution.
(e) If not using wood desk, scrubbed desk with the abrasive side of the sponge.
(f) Wiped with a reusable wipe.
(g) Rinsed sponge; then rinsed desk with soft side of the sponge.
(h) Dried desk with clean reusable wipe.
(i) If using wood desk, removed all items then sprayed light mist of polish.
(j) Wiped surface with clean wipe.
(k) Rinsed out reusable wipes.
(l) Put all materials away.
(m) Checked with instructor for proper disposal of cleaning solution.
(n) Washed hands.

Activity 2 – Whiteboard Cleaning
(a) Shook spray cleaner; Sprayed one section at a time, holding the can about 3 inches away from the board and sprayed across to right and worked back to left.
(b) Wiped surface clean with reusable wipe before cleaner dried.
(c) Repeated steps to clean entire board.
(d) If needed, wiped tray clean after removing markers or chalk.
(e) Rinsed out reusable wipe.
(f) Put all materials away.
(g) Washed hands.

Activity 3 – Inside Window and Mirror Cleaning
(a) Sprayed, holding can 6-8” from the window surface and moving from upper left to right until the entire surface was covered.
(b) Dried the glass surface by using horizontal strokes followed by vertical ones.
(c) Wiped entire surface with a clean reusable wipe until all streaks were removed.
(d) Rinsed out reusable wipe.
(e) Put all materials away.
(f) Washed hands.

Activity 4 – Outside Window Washing
(a) Prepared cleaning solution using one gallon of warm water and 1/2 cup of disinfectant cleaner.
(b) Dipped squeegee into cleaning solution; Used sponge side of squeegee to apply solution to entire window surface using horizontal, then vertical strokes.
(c) Used rubber side of squeegee beginning at top left corner and pulled vertically to bottom on entire window.
(d) Wiped blade, after each vertical stroke, using a reusable wipe.
(e) Rinsed out reusable wipe.
(f) Checked with instructor for proper disposal of cleaning solution.
(g) Put all materials away.
(h) Washed hands.

Activity 5 – Wall Washing
(a) Filled both sides of a divided bucket with one gallon of warm water.
(b) Prepared solution using 1/2 cup of disinfectant cleaner on one side of divided bucket.
(c) Dusted the wall with a reusable wipe before washing wall.
(d) Dipped sponge in cleaning solution side of divided bucket. Squeezed sponge out over bucket.
(e) Washed section beginning in a corner, near the floor, using vertical and then horizontal strokes to apply the solution.
(f) Dipped sponge in clean rinse water side of divided bucket. Squeezed sponge out over bucket.
(g) Rinsed washed section before the solution dried.
(h) Repeated process on other wall sections.
(i) Rinsed the sponges with rinse water in bucket and squeezed out over bucket.
(j) Checked with instructor for proper disposal of cleaning solution.
(k) Put all materials away.
(l) Washed hands.

Activity 6 – Dust Mop Sweeping
(a) Moved furniture to one side of the room if necessary.
(b) Assembled dust mop; sprayed with dust mop spray.
(c) Swept down one side of the room and back until all the room was swept.
(d) Used counter brush to sweep loose dirt and dust into dust pan, and emptied into a waste can.
(e) Shook dust mop outside.
(f) Took mop head off.
(g) Put materials away.
(h) Washed hands.

Activity 7 – Wet Mopping and Disinfecting Floors
(a) Prepared solution using disinfectant cleaner.
(b) Moved mop and bucket to cleaning area.
(c) Placed “Wet Floor Caution” sign in mopping area before beginning to mop.
(d) Put mop head in cleaning solution then into squeezer. Squeezed mop head before beginning.
(e) Mopped using side to side motion in area that could be reached; then moved backwards until floor was cleaned, dipping mop in solution often.
(f) Squeezed mop out.
(g) Checked with instructor for proper disposal of cleaning solution.
(h) Removed sign after the area dried.
(i) Put materials away.
(j) Washed hands.

Activity 8 – Restroom Cleaning
(a) Prepared mopping solution using disinfectant cleaner.
(b) Put mop in solution; used mop to move mop bucket to work area
(c) Put cleaning supplies in jani-carrier and moved to work area.
(d) Swabbed toilet and then cleaned swab by rinsing.
(e) Wiped top and bottom of the toilet seat lid and top of the bowl with creme cleaner on sponge.
(f) Squeezed a small amount of creme cleaner on sponge and cleaned faucets and handles. Wiped and polished with a reusable wipe.
(g) Rinsed out wipe with water.
(h) Wiped mirror clean with reusable wipe and glass cleaner.
(i) Wiped smudges off the wall using cleaner and reusable wipe.
(j) Put out “Wet Floor Caution” sign.
(k) Mopped floor according to previously learned procedure; Wrung out mop.
(l) Rinsed reusable wipe.
(m) Checked with instructor for proper disposal of cleaning solution.
(n) Put materials away.
(o) Washed hands
