Planning Healthy Meals

French fries and a chocolate milkshake do not make a nutritious meal. In this module, students will learn about the different food groups and the guidelines to building a healthy food plan.

Competencies Include:

  • Explain the ‘MyPlate’ Food Plan
  • List and Describe the Food Groups from the ‘MyPlate’ Food Plan
  • Describe Foods to Increase and Decrease for a Healthy Plate
  • Define Calorie and Nutrition
  • Describe Portion Size and Give Examples of Five Common Portion Sizes
  • List the Guidelines to Build a Healthy Plate
  • Compare and Contrast “Bad Fats” or Solids and “Good Fats” or Oils
