Recipients of the Food Service (Adapted) Digital Badge Credential have demonstrated concept proficiency and completed the following tasks:
Activity 1: Cleanliness Test
1. Gather materials. |
2. Put four large plates and one small plate on the table. Separate the four large plates into two stacks of two plates. |
3. Pour a little paint onto the small plate. |
4. Put your fingertips into the paint. |
5. Pick up two large plates and stack them. |
6. Wash your hands with soap and warm water. |
7. Look closely at the plates you stacked. Do you see red fingerprints? |
8. Look at the germs with the magnifying glass. |
9. Pick up the other two large plates and stack. |
10. Look at the plates. Do you see any fingerprints? |
11. Look at the plates with the magnifying glass. Do you see any germs? |
12. Wash and dry all of the plates. |
13. Clean up your work area. |
Activity 2: How Germs Spread
1. Gather materials. |
2. Put a small piece of tape on the top of each petri dish. |
3. Write numbers 1-5 on each piece of tape. |
4. Petri dish 1 will stay closed so no germs will get in. |
5. Take the cover off of dish 2. Place the lid upside down on the table. Wait five minutes. |
6. Pick up the lid but don’t touch the inside. Put the lid on the dish. |
7. Dip a clean swab in the Easygel bottle. |
8. Rub the swab on a doorknob. |
9. Open dish 3 and place the lid upside down on the table. |
10. Gently rub the swab across the gel in a “z” pattern. Carefully close the lid as before. |
11. Wipe the table top with a dish cloth. |
12. Dip a clean swab in the Easygel bottle. |
13. Rub the swab on the dish cloth. |
14. Open dish 4 and place the lid upside down on the table. |
15. Gently rub the swab across the gel in a “z” pattern. Carefully close the lid as before. |
16. Dip a clean swab in the Easygel bottle. |
17. Rub the swab across the bottom of the backpack. |
18. Open dish 5 and place the lid upside down on the table. |
19. Gently rub the swab across the gel in a “z” pattern. Carefully close the lid as before. |
20. Put all five dishes in a warm place. Wait one week. |
21. Look at each dish with the magnifying glass. Use the Petri Dish Template to draw the germs in each dish. |
22. Give the Petri dishes to your teacher for proper disposal. |
23. Put your materials away. |
24. Wash your hands. |
Activity 3: Preparing Attractive Meals
1. Gather materials. |
2. Put on apron and hat. |
3. Wash your hands. |
4. Put on the disposable gloves. |
5. Put the dinner plates, salad/bread plates and dessert bowls on the table. |
6. Put a grain on each small salad/bread plate. |
7. Put a dessert in each bowl. |
8. Put a protein on each dinner plate. |
9. Put a vegetable on each dinner plate. |
10. Put a fruit on each dinner plate. |
11. Point to the meal that looks more attractive. |
12. Let your teacher check your work. |

Activity 4: Filling Orders
1. Gather materials. |
2. Put on the apron and hat. |
3. Wash your hands. |
4. Put on the disposable gloves. |
5. Look at Filling Orders Template 1. Find the food model that fills this order. |
6. Put the matching food model on the Filling Orders Template 1. |
7. Look at Filling Orders Template 2. Find the food model that fills this order. |
8. Put the matching food model on the Filling Orders Template 2. |
9. Look at Filling Orders Template 3. Find the food model that fills this order. |
10. Put the matching food model on Filling Orders Template 3. |
11. Take off your gloves. Get the Blank Order Form and the pencil. |
12. On the Blank Order form, write the total cost of the apple. |
13. On the Blank Order form, write the total cost of the roasted chicken. |
14. On the Blank Order form, write the total cost of the muffin. |
15. Use the calculator to add the total cost of the apple, roasted chicken and muffin. |
16. Write the total amount in the space on the Blank Order form. |
17. Have your teacher check your work. |

Activity 5: Planning School Lunches
1. Gather materials. |
2. Put on the apron and hat. |
3. Wash your hands. |
4. Put on the disposable gloves. |
5. Put three trays on the table. Spread out the food models. |
6. Put one protein in the big rectangular space on each tray. |
7. Put one grain on each tray next to the protein. |
8. Put one dairy in the rectangular space on the top left of each tray. |
9. Put one vegetable in the rectangular space next to the dairy on each tray. |
10. Put one fruit in the rectangular space next to the vegetable on each tray. |
11. Put one drink in the circular space on each tray. |
12. Get the Food Group picture. Use it to see if you have one of each food group on your trays. |
13. Have your teacher check your work. |
