Graphic Artist (Intermediate)

Recipients of the Graphic Artist credential have demonstrated concept proficiency and completed  the following tasks:

Activity 1 — Creating Original Artwork
(a) Chose an item from the client’s products from which to create artwork.
(b) Contrasted abstract art and realistic art.
(c) Wrote specific details about item chosen.
(d) Defined and chose an art medium.
(e) Created original artwork to represent client’s item.
(f) Chose an art medium and created original artwork based on provided scenario using imagination.
(g) Showed work to instructor; put away materials.
(h) Washed hands.

Activity 2 — Design Details
(a) Used a pencil, charcoal pencil or graphite pencil to draw one of the provided drawings without tracing it.
(b) Answered the reflection questions to the best of his or her ability.
(c) Showed work to the instructor; put away materials.
(d) Washed hands.

Activity 3 — Using Fonts and Art
(a) Compared 4 fonts for similarities and differences; successfully recorded answers.
(b) Completed Worksheet #1 correctly.
(c) Defined “graphics” and “clipart”.
(d) Located four art folders on the Graphic Artist templates.
(e) Located and opened the sample tri-fold brochure for the subject that matches the client for whom they are creating artwork.
(f) Changed font style, size and color in the brochure on the computer.
(g) Changed art size in the brochure on the computer.
(h) Changed the tri-fold brochure template into two colors.
(i) Inserted artwork into brochure from the Graphic Artist template.
(j) Printed out final tri-fold brochure; showed it to instructor; put away materials.
(k) Washed hands.

Activity 4 — First Client Meeting
(a) Created a portfolio with materials designed thus far from activities.
(b) Prepared for client meeting by answering reflection questions.
(c) Presented portfolio to client.
(d) Answered client-specific questions.
(e) Recorded client’s needs on Worksheet #1.
(f) Thanked client for his/her time.
(g) Showed work to the instructor.

Activity 5 — Designing a Logo
(a) Used magazine samples or the computer to find three logo samples; compared and contrasted the logos.
(b) Used answers from Worksheet #2 to brainstorm a logo design.
(c) Designed an original logo.
(d) Mounted the logo on backing.
(e) Showed work to the instructor; put away materials.
(f) Washed hands.

Activity 6 — Submitting Your Work for Evaluation
(a) Presented original logo to review board; asked specific questions; recorded the review board’s answers carefully.
(b) Thanked the client for feedback.
(c) Made changes to logo as necessary.
(d) Repeated process until the work matches client’s needs and wants.
(e) Showed work to the instructor; put materials away.
(f) Washed hands.

Activity 7 — How to Design an Ad Layout
(a) Identified the five parts of an ad in a provided advertisement.
(b) Created an original ad layout using his/her own logo; included all five parts of the ad in their original work.
(c) Presented the ad to the client for review.
(d) Made changes necessary per client feedback.
(e) Showed work to the instructor; put materials away.

Activity 8 — Designing a Label
(a) Wrapped the label around the can.
(b) Used art supplies to design label; included logo, font and picture for label.
(c) Made sure elements of design were in proportion to space available.
(d) Showed work to classmate; made changes based on feedback.
(e) Showed work to the instructor; put materials away.
(f) Washed hands.

Activity 9 — Designing Client Materials
(a) Chose a scenario for which to create client materials.
(b) Used art supplies or computer to create an original design; included a logo, font, and color scheme.
(c) Showed work to the instructor; put materials away.
(d) Washed hands.
