Recipients of the Grocery Clerking (Adapted) credential have demonstrated concept proficiency and completed the following tasks:
Activity 1: Bagging Groceries by ‘Food’ and ‘Not Food’
1. Gather the materials. |
2. Open two paper grocery bags. |
3. Put the “food” card in front of one bag. |
4. Put the “not food” card in front of the other bag. |
5. Pick up the paper towels. This is not food. Put the paper towels in the “not food” bag. |
6. Pick up the apple. This is food. Put the apple in the “food” bag. |
7. Keep working until all grocery items are bagged. |
8. Have your teacher check your work. |
9. Clean up your work area. |
Activity 2: Bagging Groceries by ‘Cold’ and ‘Not Cold’ Items
1. Gather the materials. |
2. Sort the cold items from the not cold items. |
3. Put the items that are cold in one bag. Remember to bag any special items separately! |
4. Put the items that are not cold in another bag. |
5. Have your teacher check your work. |
6. Clean up your work area. |
Activity 3: Bagging Groceries by Light and Heavy Items
1. Gather the materials. |
2. First sort the cold items from the not cold items like you did in Activity 2. |
3. Then bag the cold group of items. Put the items that are heavy on the bottom of the bag. |
4. Put the items that are lighter on the top of the bag. |
5. Put the items that are fragile either on the top of the bag or in a separate bag. |
6. Next bag the items that are not cold. Remember to put the heavy items on the bottom, then the lighter items next. Fragile items go on top! |
7. Have your teacher check your work. |
8. Clean up your work area. |
Activity 4: Facing Shelves
1. Gather the materials. |
2. Choose a flat area to work on such as a shelf or a table. |
3. Put five cans in a straight line. |
4. Make sure the label is turned to face the customer. |
5. Put five more cans on top. |
6. Be sure the cans are stacked neatly and that the customer can see the labels easily. |
7. Ask your teacher to check your work. |
8. Put the materials away and clean up the work area. |
Activity 5: Sorting Money
1. Gather the materials. |
2. Mix up all the coins and put on a table beside the cash drawer. |
3. Mix up the paper money and put on the table near the coins. |
4. Put one penny in the small slot in the cash drawer on the right side. |
5. Put one nickel in the small slot in the cash drawer next to the penny. |
6. Put one dime in the small slot in the cash drawer next to the nickel. |
7. Put one quarter in the small slot in the cash drawer next to the dime. |
8. Put a one dollar bill in the long slot in the cash drawer over the penny. |
9. Put a five dollar bill in the long slot in the cash drawer over the nickel. |
10. Put a ten dollar bill in the long slot in the cash drawer over the dime. |
11. Put a twenty dollar bill in the long slot in the cash drawer over the quarter. |
12. Sort the remaining bills into the correct slots. |
13. Sort the remaining coins into the correct slots. |
14. Have your teacher check your work. |
15. Put your materials away. |
Activity 6: Making Change
1. Gather the materials. |
2. Get one of the Activity 6 cards. The card will show what the customer bought and the amount of change due to the customer. |
3. Look at the Activity card and find the amount of change due to the customer. Now count out the change. |
4. Have your teacher check your work. |
5. Give the change to the customer and thank them for shopping in your store. |
6. Put the materials away and clean up the work area. |
