Skin & Nail Care (Adapted)

Recipients of the Skin & Nail Care (Adapted) credential have demonstrated concept proficiency and completed the following tasks:

Activity 1: Organizing Skin & Nail Care Products

1.     Gather materials.
2.    Put the products and the sorting boxes on the table.
3.    Place the matching sheets #1, 2 and 3 on the table.
4.    Place the lotion on the correct matching sheet.
5.    Place the cleansing cream on the correct matching sheet.
6.    Put each product on the correct matching sheet.
7.   Find the Skin Care sorting box. Put all of the skin care items into this box.
8.   Find the Nail Care sorting box. Put all of the nail care items into this box.
9.   Find the Makeup sorting box.  Put all of the makeup items into this box.
10.  Show the teacher your three boxes with the sorted items.
11.  Put away the sorting boxes with the items.

Activity 2: Setting up a Facial Station

1.     Gather materials.
2.     Lay the towel flat on the table.
3.     Put the headband on the left side of the towel.
4.     Put the astringent on the right side of the towel.
5.     Put the cotton balls next to the headband.
6.     Place the cleansing cream next to the astringent.
7.     Have your teacher check your work.
8.    Clean up your work area.

Activity 3: Setting up a Nail Care Station

1.    Gather materials.
2.    Lay the towel flat on the table.
3.    Put the nail brush on the left side of the towel near the bottom.
4.    Put the tissues above the nail brush.
5.    Put the cotton balls to the right of the tissues.
6.    Put the nail file to the right of the nail brush.
7.    Put the nail polish remover to the right of the cotton balls.
8.    Put the nail polish to the right of the nail file.
9.    Have your teacher check your work.
10.  Clean up your work area.

Activity 4: Setting up a Makeup Station

1.     Gather materials.
2.     Lay the towel flat on the table.
3.     Put the headband on the left side of the towel near the bottom.
4.     Put the tissues above the headband.
5.     Put the cotton balls to the right of the tissues.
6.     Put the foundation to the right of the cotton balls.
7.    Put the blush to the right of the headband.
8.    Put the mascara to the right of the foundation.
9.    Put the eye shadow to the right of the blush.
10.  Have your teacher check your work.
11.  Clean up your work area.

Activity 5: Applying Makeup

1.     Gather materials.
2.     Wash your hands with soap and water.
3.     Get a clean cotton ball. Swipe it in the eye shadow until there is makeup on the cotton ball.
4.     Lightly stroke the cotton ball on the face template’s eyelids until there is eye shadow on the paper.
5.     Blend the eye shadow with your fingertips.
6.     Get a clean cotton ball. Swipe it on the blush until there is makeup on the cotton ball.
7.     Lightly stroke the cotton ball on the face template’s cheeks until there is blush on the paper.
8.    Blend the blush with your fingertips.
9.    Gently rub the clean cotton swab over the end of the lipstick.
10.  Use the cotton swab to apply the lipstick to the face template’s lips.
11.  Blend the lipstick with your fingertips if necessary.
12.  Have your teacher check your work.
13.  Clean up your work area.
14.  Wash your hands

Activity 6: Filling an Order

1.     Gather materials.
2.     Look at the Skin and Nail Care Order form. Locate the first product.
3.     Open the bag. Place the item in the bag.
4.     Use the pencil to put a check in the circle on the form.
5.     Locate the second product on the order form.
6.     Place the item in the bag.
7.   Use a pencil to put a check in the circle on the form.
8.   Continue until all items are in the bag.
9.   Use the calculator to multiply the amount of each item by the cost for 1.
10.  Write the amount in the total box for that item.
11.  Use the calculator to add the cost of all items in the bag.
12.  Write the total amount on the order form.
13.  Have your teacher check your work.
14.  Clean up your work area.

Activity 7: Giving a Manicure

1.     Gather your materials.
2.     Greet your customer.
3.     Ask the customer to have a seat at the table.
4.     Put one paper towel on the table in front of the customer.
5.     Get another paper towel slightly wet.  Put it on the table next to the dry paper towel.
6.     Gently put the customer’s hands on the dry paper towel.
7.     Put one pump of soap into the manicure bowl.
8.     Add water until the manicure bowl is ¾ full.
9.     Put the manicure bowl on the table in front of the customer.  The handle should face away from the customer.
10.   Dip the fingernail brush into the soapy water.
11.    Hold one hand over the manicure bowl. Clean the fingernails by brushing in a downward motion.
12.   Put the hand on the dry paper towel.  Repeat with the other hand.
13.   Use the wet paper towel to rinse the soap off the fingernails and hands.
14.   Replace the paper towel in front of the customer if necessary.
15.   Use the towel to gently dry the hands.
16.   Ask the customer to pick a nail polish.  Carefully open the nail polish.
17.  Dip the nail polish brush into the nail polish.  Press the brush against the sides of the bottle opening to remove excess polish.
18.  Gently hold the customer’s right hand.  Start with the little finger.  Apply polish starting at the base of the nail.  Use long, light and even strokes.  Cover the complete nail.
19.  Repeat with the other four nails.
20. Have your teacher check your work.
21.  Put a small amount of nail polish remover on the cotton ball.
22.  With the wet cotton ball, wipe off the nail polish on the customer’s hand.  Repeat with a new cotton ball if necessary.
23.  Ask your customer to wash his or her hands.
24.  Clean up your work area.
25.  Wash your hands.
