Writing Careers (Criteria)

Recipients of the Writing Careers credential have demonstrated concept proficiency and completed  the following tasks:

Activity 1 Writing Headlines
(a) Read Writing Ideas Sheet.
(b) Wrote two headlines for each of the two billboards.
(c) Read story and wrote two headlines for it.
(d) Showed work to instructor.

Activity 2 – Copy Writing
(a) Wrote a block of copy 30-35 words long for ad.
(b) Evaluated work and re-wrote if necessary.
(c) Showed work to instructor and made any suggested changes.
(d) Wrote block of copy 40-50 words long.
(e) Evaluated work and re-wrote if necessary.
(f) Showed work to instructor and made any suggested changes.
(g) Selected one block of copy and re-wrote.
(h) Showed work to instructor and made any suggested changes.

Activity 3 – Writing Brochures
(a) Wrote three-fold brochure using information provided.
(b) Showed work to instructor.
(c) Made any suggested changes.

Activity 4 – Writing for Radio
(a) Completed top part of “WORY” Radio Script Form.
(b) Read information and wrote 40 second announcement for radio.
(c) Recorded announcement, played it back and timed it.
(d) Made changes if needed.
(e) Let instructor evaluate copy. Made any suggested changes.
(f) Played “WORY” Radio Audio file.
(g) Wrote another promotional spot using provided information.
(h) Recorded announcement, played it back and timed it.
(i) Made changes if needed.
(j) Let instructor evaluate copy. Made any suggested changes.

Activity 5 – Writing for Television & Films
(a) Read and studied Sample Video Script.
(b) Wrote 30 second television script on Video Script Format Sheet using information provided.
(c) Read and recorded copy. Played back and timed it.
(d) Made changes if necessary.
(e) Wrote three minute opening script using one of scenarios provided.
(f) Conducted necessary research to develop script and visuals.
(g) Recorded script. Played back and timed it.
(h) Made changes if necessary.
(i) Showed work to instructor. Made suggested changes if necessary.
(j) Re-recorded copy and timed it.

Activity 6 – Technical Writing
(a) Wrote paragraph using technical writing style with information provided.
(b) Wrote directions for using a device.
(c) Asked classmate to follow directions to use the device.
(d) Made changes to writing if necessary.
(e) Showed work to instructor.
(f) Made changes if necessary.

Activity 7 – Creative Writing
(a) Studied magazines and their target markets.
(b) Wrote poem, short story or article for a selected magazine.
(c) Evaluated work and made changes to improve piece.
(d) Showed work to instructor.
(e) Made changes if necessary.
